Profile of the Graduate Students

Given their wide expertise in electronics, computer engineering, systems engineering and mechatronics, the graduates of the dept. of Automation are capable to:

• Implement the scientific and technological methods of design, development, manufacturing and handling of electrical, electronic, computational, hydraulic and pneumatic machines, mechatronic systems, etc., as well as the automatic control of them.
• Carry out evaluations and measurements of projects and installations which belong to systems involving elements of automatic control as well as implement and supervise related procedures and activities.
• Deploy, program, maintain, regulate and readjust computers, microprocessors, microcontrollers, PLCs, CNCs, robotic devices, etc and perform applied research.

Employment of the Graduates

The main advantage of our graduates is the broad education which makes them very competent to work in industry, in education (teachers in secondary schools), in research and to continue their studies at all levels of education. The unemployment is very small, almost negligible.

• Industry: The majority of our graduates is employed in industry where they prove to be very competent.
• Education: A significant number of our graduates is employed as teachers in secondary level education. The broad and in-depth coverage of computer engineering subjects gives them the background to teach courses on informatics, whereas the other main fields covered during their studies render them very suitable to teach topics such as technology in general education and relevant courses in vocational schools.
• Postgraduate Studies & Research: The deep theoretical and practical background acquired during their studies enables them to participate as research assistants at Universities and research institutes and to continue their studies successfully towards the MSc or PhD degrees in topics of Control Systems, Robotics and Computer Science/Engineering. A significant number of our graduates has completed MSc or even PhD.

European Educational Cooperation:

The department of Automation has educational and research cooperation with foreign Institutes abroad and participates in research programs. The students and professors mobility is organized via our Institutional Socrates/Erasmus office. The mobility for industrial training is organized via the Leonardo Da Vinci program.
